Toronto is in no rush to retain starting shooting guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barrerj01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-09-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">RJ Barrett<\/a> beyond this season.<\/p>\n<p>The Raptors and Barrett\u2019s long-time agent, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duffybi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-09-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bill Duffy<\/a>, have yet to have substantive conversations about the possibility of a contract extension, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/nba\/article\/raptors-rj-barrett-wont-let-uncertain-future-with-hometown-team-affect-his-play\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sportsnet\u2019s Michael Grange<\/a> reports. An extension for Barrett could be worth as much as $185MM over four seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett is in final year of a four-year, $107MM contract he originally signed with his former team, the Knicks. There is optimism that Barrett\u2019s desire to get a deal that keeps him in Toronto long-term isn\u2019t one-sided, Grange adds. However, future financial obligations could make it difficult for the Raptors to re-sign Barrett.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/barnesc01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-09-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Scottie Barnes<\/a> is entering the second year of a five-year, $244MM extension. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/q\/quickim01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-09-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Immanuel Quickley<\/a> is owed $32.5MM annually through the 2028\/29 season. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/poeltja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-09-29_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jakob Poeltl<\/a>\u2019s three-year, $84MM extension begins with the 2027\/28 season. The Raptors will also have to take care of some of their recent draft picks down the road.<\/p>\n<p>All those factors work against Barrett, whose expiring contract could be a valuable trade piece this season. Barrett averaged 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season.<\/p>\n<p>Barrett says his contract situation won\u2019t be a distraction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like at the end of the day, whether you get a contract or not, you just keep playing,\u201d he said. \u201cIf it\u2019s not one place, somebody else will want you. You\u2019re always auditioning every time you step on the floor. So always put your best foot forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barrett trusts that Duffy will get him a good deal, whether it\u2019s an extension with the Raptors or a free agent contract next offseason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the first thing is, a lot of times, players get too upset about it,\u201d he said. \u201cOne, they\u2019re still gonna pay me a lot of money this year anyway ($29.6 MM), so I\u2019ve gotta be thankful for that. And then I have a good agent \u2014 I just let him do his thing.
