The former Manchester United captain Roy Keane said he would throw the \u201cmedals in the bin\u201d if he were a Manchester City player after Premier League confirmation<\/a> on Tuesday that the club were guilty of all charges related to their financial rules and boosted their income by more than \u00a3900m after arranging \u201csham \u00adcontracts\u201d with commercial partners.<\/p>\n

City, who continue to deny<\/a> any wrongdoing, won eight trophies, including three Premier League titles between 2009 and 2018, the period under investigation. Keane said the achievements of City\u2019s players had become redundant because of the \u201ccheating\u201d that took place during that time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was a player, I\u2019d be 100% sticking those medals in the bin. Of course you would, it\u2019s cheating,\u201d the ITV football pundit stated during the coverage of England\u2019s match against Czechia in the Nations League. \u201cThey won it on the pitch because cheating was going on.\u201d And on the club he added: \u201cThey knew it would hurt a lot of people, but they\u2019ve still done it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the former City defender Micah Richards says the damning verdict on the club has left him devastated and heartbroken. City were found to have engaged in an almost \u00a31bn scheme to either inflate revenues or reduce costs through a series of \u201csham\u201d arrangements in order to avoid breaching league and Uefa financial regulations.<\/p>\n

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards said: \u201cThe reports were troubling. I saw the words which were used by the Premier League<\/a> in sham contracts and I felt absolutely devastated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been at that club since I was 14 years old, I would die for that club. I achieved my dream at Manchester City<\/a>, but then to hear these reports, and not only me as an ex-player, but the fans, what they have to go through, absolutely devastating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richards described speaking to the fan he used to live with as a young player at the club, adding: \u201cMy digs man, he rang me and he was literally in tears and asking me about information, which I don\u2019t know, I haven\u2019t got the answers to tell him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s someone who\u2019s supported the club for 60-odd years, and the uncertainty around it is just heartbreaking. To have a headline of this nature for a club that I love so much, it\u2019s been difficult. If you listen to the reports, they are damning.
