Tony Iommi<\/a> received his Member of the Order of the British Empire honor today (September 30), and said his late bandmate Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> would have approved.<\/p>\n

The award was bestowed at Windsor Castle by Princess Margaret, the Princess Royal, in recognition of Iommi\u2019s services to music and charity.<\/p>\n

Although he spoke to the princess during the ceremony, protocol forbids people revealing what was said. But he did say the honor was \u201cbrilliant,\u201d adding: \u201cI\u2019ve got a lot of awards over the years\u2026 but this is very special to me because it\u2019s from our own country, from England. So yeah, really great.\u201d Asked what Osbourne might have thought, Iommi said he \u201cwould have been really pleased.\u201c<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been living with cancer since his 2011 diagnosis, although his lymphoma was found to be in remission five years later. Since then he\u2019s been working in support of cancer charities, including the sale of a guitar earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice to give back because I know what it\u2019s like for those patients, and they needed new machinery and new beds,\u201d he said.\u201dIt was great to be involved \u2013 to be able to help to buy the new stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Iommi \u2013 who can now use the honorific “MBE” after his name, if he chooses \u2013 reported he found the upcoming Back to the Beginning<\/a> concert movie \u2013 shot during Osbourne\u2019s final performance <\/a>17 days before his death<\/a> in 2025 \u2013 a struggle to sit through.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve watched the footage and it\u2019s emotional,\u201d he explained. \u201cI\u2019ve watched it only twice now. I find it difficult to watch it, to be honest, because, obviously, of our relationship with each other. But I\u2019m sure people will like it.\u201d<\/p>\n
