CROSBY — The Alexandria girls tennis team’s undefeated start to the 2026 season came to an end on Monday, Sept. 28.

The Cardinals were narrowly defeated by Rock Ridge 4-3 in the teams’ dual at the Crosby-Ironton High School tennis courts, ending a run of 20 consecutive dual victories dating back to last season’s loss in the fifth-place dual against Eagan at the Class AAA state team tournament and only the fourth loss in the last two seasons.

The difference in the dual came down to Flight 2 of singles play, as Kennedy Stevenson retired from the match following the second set against Ellie Dimberio, having dropped Set 1 6-3 before coming back to win Set 2, not dropping a game before the match was stopped.

The remaining six matches in the contest were decided in straight sets, as the Wolverines picked up three of their four match victories in singles competition. Mayme Scott scored the victory at Flight 1 over Addison Stevenson, while Alice Johnson was victorious against Samantha Whaley at Flight 3.

Bentley Kriel was the winner of her singles match at Flight 4, taking down Lana Frederick by a final of 6-2, 6-2. Other winners for the Cardinals included the No. 2 doubles team of Alexis Dummer and Stella Olson, and the No. 3 doubles squad of Joni Vanderheiden and Rylin Converse.

Alexandria concludes regular-season play on the road against Fergus Falls at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1.
