The Huskers moved up an average of 9.5 places in the rankings.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7l\">The Huskers also made a nice jump in the ESPN Football Power Index odds to make the College Football Playoff, going to a respectable 26.2 percent from 16.7 percent. Easy prediction: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/nebraska\/football\/taking-a-look-at-how-nebraska-s-big-ten-opponents-have-played\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">If (a big if) Nebraska defeats Indiana in two weeks<\/a>, those odds will jump to at least 70 percent. The Huskers play <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huskermax.com\/game\/2026-maryland-football\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">host to Maryland <\/a>on Saturday (3 p.m. CT, FS1). Maryland is coming off a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/nebraska\/football\/huskers-and-weekend-of-shocking-big-ten-results-01m3mqgs7jgy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">54-3 loss at home to UCLA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7q\">Nebraska now has a 99.9 percent chance of winning six games, which would be bowl eligibility. Nebraska is one of 22 undefeated teams in the nation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7v\">After some research and a reader suggestion, we added a seventh ranking, Jeff Sagarin\u2019s ratings. Sagarin is well known and respected for his basketball ratings. His football ratings seem sound, except for not acknowledging Michigan&#8217;s disputed win over Western Michigan, so we added it. In Sagarin\u2019s first ratings we&#8217;ve used, Nebraska comes in at 16.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"80\">Each Wednesday, we\u2019ll take a look at where six (now seven) national polls and rankings place Nebraska\u2019s football team.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8b\">The seven polls and rankings we monitor are:<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8g\">* Associated Press Top 25<br \/>* The Athletic 138<br \/>* CBS Sports<br \/>* USA Today Coaches Poll<br \/>* ESPN\u2019s Football Power Index<br \/>* Massey Ratings<br \/>* Sagarin Ratings<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8l\">The Huskers rank 27.7 in an average of seven polls and rankings we monitor. Last week, it was 39.1 (without Sagarin).<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8q\">Nebraska\u2019s best ranking is 14 by ESPN&#8217;s Football Power Index (last week it was 21), and its worst ranking is 48 by The Athletic (last week it was 58).<\/p>\n<p>Associated Press Top 25<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"96\">Nebraska moved up to 33 from 42 in the \u201cothers receiving votes\u201d grouping. This is the second consecutive week Nebraska has received votes after being blanked the first four rankings.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"9b\">Six Big Ten teams are ranked in the Top 25. Ohio State is the highest-ranked conference team at 5, improving by two spots from last week.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"9g\">5. Ohio State<br \/>6. Indiana<br \/>14. Iowa<br \/>15. Oregon<br \/>18. USC<br \/>23. UCLA<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"9l\">Nebraska still is yet to play the conference\u2019s top four teams in the AP Poll.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"9q\">Among \u201cothers receiving votes\u201d in the Big Ten, Wisconsin is 26, Penn State is 28, Michigan is 31, Minnesota is 38 and Northwestern is 40 and last.<\/p>\n<p>The Athletic 138<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-19\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"a6\">Nebraska jumped 10 spots, going to 48 from 58, still its worst ranking among the ones we monitor. The Huskers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/nebraska\/football\/as-nebraska-begins-its-2026-football-schedule-are-the-huskers-better-than-last-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">finished 52 last season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CBS Sports<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-21\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"ag\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/nebraska\/football\/despite-big-wins-nebraska-will-still-search-for-true-identity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nebraska made a big jump<\/a> to 30 from 41. The Huskers are ranked ahead of the following 11 Big Ten teams:<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-22\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"al\">31. Michigan<br \/>32. Penn State<br \/>35. Wisconsin<br \/>37. Northwestern<br \/>44. Minnesota<br \/>45. Washington<br \/>64. Illinois<br \/>71. Purdue<br \/>73. Maryland<br \/>78. Michigan State<br \/>100. Rutgers<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-23\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"aq\">Nebraska still is yet to play Washington, Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers from this group in 2026.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-24\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"av\">Six Big Ten teams are ranked above Nebraska:<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-25\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"b0\">5. Ohio State<br \/>6. Indiana<br \/>13. Iowa<br \/>15. Oregon<br \/>17. UCLA<br \/>19. USC<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-26\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"b5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/nebraska\/football\/what-are-best-case-worst-case-and-most-likely-scenarios-for-nebraska-football\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nebraska plays Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, and Iowa<\/a> from this group.<\/p>\n<p>USA Today Coaches Poll<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-29\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"bl\">Nebraska is among \u201cothers receiving votes\u201d at 31, an improvement from 40, with 67 points. The 25th-ranked team, Missouri, has 152 points. The USA Today panel consists of 72 coaches who vote, including Matt Rhule.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Football Power Index (FPI)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-31\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"bv\">Nebraska moved to 14 from 21, the Huskers\u2019 best ranking among the polls and rankings we monitor. Nebraska also improved in FPI\u2019s odds for this season.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-33\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"c6\">Here are FPI\u2019s odds for Nebraska\u2019s season:<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-34\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"cb\">* Chance of winning six games, which would make the Huskers bowl eligible: 99.4 percent (last week: 95.4 percent chance)<br \/>* 8.8 projected wins and 3.3 projected losses (last week: 8.1 projected wins and 3.9 projected losses)<br \/>* 4.6 percent chance of winning the Big Ten (last week: 2.6 percent chance)<br \/>* 26.2 percent chance of making the College Football Playoff (last week: 16.7 percent chance)<br \/>* 2.2 percent chance of making the national championship game (last week: 4.6 percent chance)<br \/>* 0.8 percent chance of winning the national championship (last week: 0.5 percent chance)<\/p>\n<p>Massey Ratings<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-36\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"cl\">Massey Ratings are a compilation of 40 different college football rankings. In the consensus of the 40 rankings, the Huskers made a big jump to 22 from 33. Texas is No. 1, followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Alabama and Indiana.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-38\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"cu\">Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
