Neal McDonough<\/a>\u00a0may be known as one of the most ruthless villains in the \u201cYellowstone\u201d universe, but there\u2019s one thing the actor himself has never done: watched the show.<\/p>\n

McDonough, 60, portrayed ruthless businessman Malcolm Beck on the hit\u00a0Taylor Sheridan\u00a0series<\/a>, appearing in six episodes during Season 2.<\/p>\n

But reliving the performance is something McDonough admitted he avoids.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never seen it. You know, I don\u2019t watch any of my stuff,\u201d McDonough said on the\u00a0\u201cArroyo Grande\u201d<\/a>\u00a0podcast.<\/p>\n

He went on to explain why he refuses to watch himself on screen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a method actor, I can tell you if I look at a frame \u2013 that\u2019s why I don\u2019t watch any of my stuff. If I look at a frame of a show from 20 years ago, I know exactly the thought I was thinking. I know the song I was thinking about. I know where I was going. So going back to me sometimes can be really kind of traumatic and painful,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n

Neal McDonough said he has never watched his performance on \u201cYellowstone.\u201d <\/p>\n

Even attending his own movie premieres doesn\u2019t necessarily mean he\u2019ll watch the finished product.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll go to premieres of our films, and I\u2019ll do the red carpet. [His wife] Ruv\u00e9 and I will walk in, out the exit, grab a nice dinner someplace, go to the party after. \u2018How\u2019d you like the movie?\u2019 \u2018It was great. It was awesome. I loved it.\u2019 I just don\u2019t like to watch myself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

And McDonough isn\u2019t losing sleep over whether he delivered in a particular scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was there on the day,\u201d he said. \u201cI know I did a great job because God gave me a talent. I\u2019m terrible at pounding nails. I\u2019m not very good at telling jokes. But as Ruv\u00e9 said, \u2018Man, you can act.\u2019 And so I don\u2019t need to look to see if it was good or not. They keep on hiring me, right? If they keep on hiring, I must be doing something right.\u201d<\/p>\n

His decision to avoid watching \u201cYellowstone\u201d comes years after a painful chapter in McDonough\u2019s life that left him questioning whether his Hollywood career was over.<\/p>\n

McDonough has claimed that he was fired from ABC\u2019s \u201cScoundrels\u201d in 2010 after refusing to perform intimate scenes with a female co-star, saying the decision effectively derailed his career and left him struggling financially and personally.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat time is the bar open? That was generally my thought process back then,\u201d he explained to Fox News Digital in May. \u201cIt was, you know, fired from a show because I wouldn\u2019t kiss a woman. No one would hire me because they thought I was this\u00a0religious nut bag<\/a>,\u00a0which is that I love my wife so much. And no one can understand it, no one could understand it.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDonough has also spoken openly about his struggles with alcohol during that period.<\/p>\n

He said he \u201cwas always a drinker,\u201d but \u201cit became a bad problem\u201d after he said Hollywood had blackballed him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI lost the house, lost the cars, lost everything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Then his wife, Ruv\u00e9, stepped in.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe grabbed me and says, \u2018It\u2019s us or the bottle, you choose,’\u201d McDonough recalled. \u201cAnd I never looked back.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ultimatum changed everything for the longtime actor.<\/p>\n

McDonough and Ruv\u00e9\u00a0have been married for nearly 23 years. They share five children and have also built a professional partnership, producing projects together, including \u201cBoon,\u201d \u201cThe Warrant: Breaker\u2019s Law,\u201d \u201cHomestead\u201d and \u201cThe Last Rodeo.\u201d<\/p>\n
