<\/a>SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014<\/p>\nFormer Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic Congressional candidate Richard Pan blocked some news organizations, including KCRA 3, from covering their public appearance in Sacramento on Friday. <\/p>\n
Harris’ team and Pan’s team are blaming each other for the decision to exclude some journalists from covering the event. <\/p>\n
While several other outlets, including two local TV stations, The Sacramento Bee and Los Angeles Times, covered Harris\u2019 stop at Pan\u2019s campaign headquarters, KCRA 3 was not invited and not approved to cover the event, Pan\u2019s campaign confirmed.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for Pan\u2019s campaign told KCRA 3 on Friday night the decision to exclude not just KCRA 3 but also The New York Times, was at the direction of Kamala Harris\u2019 team. <\/p>\n
Typically for high-profile events, journalists are notified and have the opportunity to apply for credentials. That was not the situation for this event with the former vice president. Approved outlets were simply told they could come by being notified either through an email or phone call.<\/p>\n
“All credentialing to the campaign office drop was directed by VP Kamala Harris\u2019 office,” Pan’s campaign spokesman said. <\/p>\n
A person on Harris’ team who did not want to be identified denied the claims and said Pan’s campaign was “fully” responsible for handling press. The person said Harris did not have any members of her communications team at the event. <\/p>\n
Neither she nor Pan took questions from journalists on Friday. <\/p>\n
Harris stopped by Pan’s campaign headquarters Friday to thank supporters working Pan’s phone bank. But the main event that brought her to Sacramento was a private fundraiser on Pan’s behalf.<\/p>\n
Sources with knowledge of the event logistics said the fundraiser was hosted by Jason Kinney, a well-connected California lobbyist who is known for dining with Gov. Gavin Newsom at The French Laundry during the COVID-19 pandemic. A flyer for the event obtained by KCRA 3 showed tickets to attend ranged from $250 to $5,000.<\/p>\n
Pan hosted another event Saturday with Democratic Congressman Ami Bera and other Sacramento-area candidates running in down-ballot races. <\/p>\n

Pan would not answer the question when KCRA 3 repeatedly asked if excluding journalists from his event was the right move as President Donald Trump has tried to exclude some news organizations from covering the White House. Pan falsely said his campaign didn’t exclude media outlets. <\/p>\n
“We had media there,” he repeatedly said. “I don’t handle the details of the press. My staff does.” <\/p>\n
KCRA 3 has offered to host a debate between Dr. Pan and his opponent Rep. Kevin Kiley. <\/p>\n
KCRA 3 has also requested a one-on-one sit-down interview with Dr. Pan to talk about what he\u2019d like to get done in Congress.<\/p>\n
Dr. Pan\u2019s campaign has been largely ignoring those requests for the last couple of months. <\/p>\n
