Jon Husted at Saturday’s rally in Vandalia, said Husted and U.S. Rep. Mike Turner are working to restore Delphi retirees’ pensions. Salaried retirees did not receive the same protection.

The salaried retirees challenged the handling of their pensions in federal court, but the lawsuit ultimately failed. In January 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up their case.

Retirees also pursued a legislative remedy, although repeated efforts in Congress failed to produce a resolution.

The White House’s support for the $1 billion proposal was announced in June by Turner’s office. At the time, Husted said the effort would affect more than 5,100 Ohioans.

“It’s past time to bring justice to these families, including more than 5,100 Ohioans, and deliver to them what they were promised,” Husted said in that statement.

Speaking Saturday, Turner said the proposal would be fully paid for through money in the PBGC and would not result in deficit spending.

Trump’s public pledge adds momentum, Turner said, but lawmakers still must complete the legislative work.

“Now, with the president having made this statement, we just have to get the job done,” he said.

Tuner is running against Democratic candidate Kristina Knickerbocker for the Ohio’s 10th Congressional District.
