Two people were killed and 35 others were wounded in a shooting at a block party early Sunday in south-central Georgia.<\/p>\n

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that shots were fired at about 1:25 a.m. in Vienna, a rural community about two hours south of Atlanta. NBC affiliate WALB of Albany described the event<\/a> as a homecoming party.<\/p>\n

Dooly County sheriff\u2019s deputies were patrolling the party at the time, the bureau said. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and the wounded were taken to several regional hospitals.<\/p>\n

The bureau declined to say whether authorities had determined a motive or identified a suspect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation remains active and ongoing. At this time, no additional information is available for release,\u201d Lydia Bullard, the bureau\u2019s public affairs specialist, said in a statement to NBC News.<\/p>\n

Brett Watts, the Dooly County coroner, said the two people who died were men ages 20 and 23. Each had a single gunshot wound, Watts said, though an autopsy by the medical examiner\u2019s office, scheduled for Friday, could provide a fuller picture.
