Concord mental health awareness walk draws around 2,000 people, organizers say<\/p>\n

The state’s largest mental health awareness and suicide prevention event drew roughly 2,000 people to Concord, according to organizers. <\/p>\n

NAMI New Hampshire hosted NAMIWalks on Sunday to raise awareness and stop stigma surrounding mental health struggles. The event raised over $250,000, according to the NAMIWalks website<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“NAMIWalks in New Hampshire is an opportunity where people come here and realize ‘I’m not alone’. So many other people are walking this walk. And that’s so important for all of us to remind people, ‘You are not alone,'” said Susan Strearns, director of NAMI New Hampshire. <\/p>\n

Daniel Owens, who lost his daughter, Taylor Owens, to suicide, told us there’s a strong sense of camaraderie seeing all the support. <\/p>\n

“We can cope a little bit better knowing that we’ve got the support that we have and the friends that we have and the family that we have and the organizations that we have to support us,” Owens said. <\/p>\n
