She emphasized the importance of continued protection for the species.

“The original problem was hunting, that’s why they almost hunted them to extinction, even in Monterey Bay they killed many humpback whales before the 1970s,” Black said.

Despite their recovery, Black said humpback whales still face challenges such as noise pollution, ship strikes, and entanglement. She urged people to remain vigilant while out on the ocean.

“Keep your eye out for whales that are ahead of you so you don’t bump into them but always be looking because a whale can pop up anywhere,” Black said.

Humpback whales fill Monterey Bay, offering perfect whale-watching conditions Monterey Bay is seeing an increase in humpback whales,…

[51
367133,23685,37005,32309,367134,35574,45352,367135,367132,48230,15554,70782,79,367136,136895,79934,201
post-871197","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-anchovy","tag-challenge","tag-coast","tag-condition","tag-good-current","tag-humpback-whale","tag-monterey-bay","tag-monterey-bay-whale-watch","tag-nancy-black","tag-noise-pollution","tag-owner","tag-plankton","tag-science","tag-ship-strike","tag-ton","tag-whale-watching","tag-wildlife
["GET
