Man dies after being shot by Sacramento County deputies, sheriff’s office says<\/p>\n

An armed man was shot and killed by Sacramento County deputies on Sunday, according to the sheriff’s office. <\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened in the 4000 block of Marconi Avenue after a call around 11 a.m. about a man with a gun in his lap who was sleeping outside of a car wash. <\/p>\n

“Since he was still sleeping, they were able to wait for additional officers to arrive. Once the officers were in place, they woke him up from a distance using the car horn,” said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ed Igoe.<\/p>\n

According to the sheriff’s office, the caller believed that man matched the description of a person who shot at them the night before. The sheriff’s office said it is still unclear whether the incidents were related. <\/p>\n

The man was woken up by deputies from a distance, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said that when he was ordered to put down his gun he complied, but then he proceeded to reach for it again.<\/p>\n

“At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred. There were a total of three officers who fired,” Igoe said.<\/p>\n

Three deputies shot at the man and he was taken to the hospital, where he later died, according to the sheriff’s office. <\/p>\n

Officials said the three deputies involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave. <\/p>\n

The shooting is still under investigation. The man killed has not been identified, but the sheriff’s office said he may have been unhoused.<\/p>\n

“Of course, it is a dangerous situation and very volatile situation when you have a suspect who is reported to have fired at individuals the previous night now located with a firearm. It doesn’t get scarier than that,” Igoe said.<\/p>\n
