Stephen King\u2019s \u201cCarrie\u201d gets a new adaptation courtesy of showrunner Mike Flanagan, out Wednesday on Prime Video. Flanagan, who was born in Salem, is no stranger to adapting King \u2014 he adapted King\u2019s \u201cLife of Chuck\u201d into a 2024 movie starring Tom Hiddleston that Globe film critic Odie Henderson gave four stars<\/a>. But he\u2019s also well-known as an adapter of literary horror, and previously made miniseries adaptations of Henry James\u2019s \u201cThe Turn of the Screw\u201d (as \u201cThe Haunting of Bly Manor\u201d in 2020) and Shirley Jackson\u2019s \u201cThe Haunting of Hill House\u201d in 2018. His \u201cCarrie\u201d is set in the present day and stars Summer H. Howell in the lead role.<\/p>\n \u201cJamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself\u201d drops Wednesday on Hulu. The new comedy special from the actor and comic finds Foxx addressing the indignities of age, like being given a chair to perch on in the club, as well as his sister making fun of him for wearing a mock neck to go out. \u201cYou look old,\u201d she tells him. \u201cNo,\u201d counters Foxx. \u201cI look presentable.\u201d<\/p>\n Netflix is probably hoping \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay<\/a>\u201d fans check out \u201cBelow,\u201d out Thursday on the streamer. If what you liked about Widow\u2019s Bay was a man in his 40s dealing with the horror of the supernatural in a small seaside town, you may want to try this one, which stars Josh Hartnett as a fisherman and takes place in Newfoundland. Mackenzie Davis (\u201cHalt and Catch Fire\u201d) and Charlie Heaton (\u201cStranger Things\u201d) costar, as does something ominous from the briny deep.<\/p>\n From the makers of \u201cGhosts\u201d comes \u201cEternally Yours,\u201d out Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on CBS. This time, instead of kooky ghosts having hijinks, it\u2019s kooky vampires, who have been together for centuries. Ed Weeks (\u201cThe Mindy Project\u201d) and Allegra Edwards (\u201cUpload\u201d) star as a couple adjusting to their vampire daughter (Helen J. Shen) dating a human guy (Jaren Lewison). Lewison also starred in Mindy Kaling\u2019s \u201cNever Have I Ever,\u201d which is a fun coincidence for him and Weeks.<\/p>\n Michelle and Robert King, of \u201cThe Good Wife<\/a>,\u201d \u201cEvil,\u201d and various other excellent dramas, debut their new series, \u201cCupertino,\u201d out Thursday at 10 p.m. on CBS. Mike Colter, who most recently starred on \u201cEvil\u201d but also appeared in the \u201cGood Wife\u201d universe, stars here as an attorney who decides to start helping the little guy out in Silicon Valley by taking on cases that confront tech giants. Fans of the Kings\u2019 work may have noticed a certain skepticism regarding the tech industry from them, and this show is likely to be no different. There\u2019s quite a spectrum of light to dark (and also, fairly mainstream to amazingly weird, as in \u201cBrainDead\u201d) in their shows; this one skews more toward the \u201cElsbeth\u201d end than the \u201cEvil\u201d end. To be clear, the whole spectrum is a delight.
