Jason Kidd’s next job in the basketball world reportedly could be on television.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported Monday that ESPN has reached “advanced talks” with the former coach and the Dallas Mavericks mutually parting ways in May. According to Stein, Kidd’s role would be with the network’s studio coverage.

It is a new era in Dallas, as it hired Masai Ujiri as team president this offseason.

The Mavericks announced their mutual parting of ways with Kidd fewer than three weeks after hiring Ujiri. Stein reported at the time the team wanted a “clean slate” in a new era.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported on the situation as well, noting Kidd expressed interest in becoming the team’s president of basketball operations following the firing of general manager Nico Harrison.

However, Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont told the coach he wouldn’t be considered for that role. What’s more, MacMahon reported Kidd—who had four years and more than $40 million left on his deal when he parted ways with the team—was not part of the process that resulted in Ujiri’s hiring.

Both Kidd and the Mavericks are heading in different directions with the Western Conference team hiring Dusty May as their new head coach.

And Kidd figures to bring an experienced perspective to ESPN’s coverage. After all, he was a Hall of Fame player before he was a coach and amassed a resume that included a championship, a Rookie of the Year, five assist titles, six All-NBA selections and 10 All-Star nods.

He was also included on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.

In addition to his five seasons as the head coach of the Mavericks, Kidd coached the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.

Jason Kidd’s next job in the basketball world reportedly could be on television.
