California continues to lead the nation economically, outpacing all states and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2026\/04\/06\/icymi-bloomberg-news-how-californias-economy-dominates-in-the-gavin-newsom-era\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">every developed nation<\/a>, according to a Bloomberg analysis.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The state has more businesses than any other state, including Florida and Texas, supporting strong job creation and expanded economic opportunity for workers across the state. California is also home to more than <a href=\"https:\/\/advocacy.sba.gov\/2025\/06\/30\/2025-small-business-profiles-for-the-states-territories-and-nation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">4.3 million small businesses<\/a>, representing 99.8 percent of all businesses in the state and employing 7.6 million people.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As the world\u2019s fourth-largest economy, California continues to lead the nation where it matters most \u2014 creating new businesses, attracting venture capital, driving technological innovation, expanding advanced manufacturing, growing high-tech industries, and producing more than any other state. In fact, the Golden State continues to be the #1 state for:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Governor Newsom recently signed new legislation to continue powering California\u2019s economic engine:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2705 Making a major update to California\u2019s antitrust and consumer protection laws. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2026\/09\/30\/governor-newsom-signs-historic-law-to-stop-big-business-from-shutting-out-competition-cuts-red-tape-to-speed-up-business-permitting\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clamping down on anti-competitive behavior<\/a>, encouraging competition, and expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs and workers \u2014 including by creating new authority for the Attorney General and district attorneys to combat monopolistic behavior while also protecting small businesses.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2705Helping retailers open and operate faster by allowing businesses undertaking certain tenant improvements to hire qualified architects or engineers to review and certify that building plans comply with life-safety, health, and building code requirements.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2705 Protecting small businesses from abusive financial practices by unscrupulous financing companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2705Ensuring access to small business technical assistance by supporting providers who offer free or low-cost one-on-one, confidential consulting and training. This will help small businesses and entrepreneurs start, grow, expand, and create jobs in California.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2705Cutting unnecessary red tape that has kept a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2026\/09\/19\/governor-newsom-signs-bill-expanding-fuel-options-to-help-californians-save-at-the-pump-amid-donald-trumps-gas-price-crisis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lower-cost fuel option<\/a> out of reach for California drivers.
