{"id":872175,"date":"2026-10-06T00:12:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T00:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/872175\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T00:12:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T00:12:12","slug":"kalani-sitake-offers-update-on-lj-martin-other-injured-byu-players-deseret-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/872175\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalani Sitake offers update on LJ Martin, other injured BYU players \u2013 Deseret News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">BYU may be without its most impactful offensive player this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After leaving this past weekend\u2019s game at TCU early with an injury, running back LJ Martin is \u201cdoubtful\u201d to play against Iowa State on Friday, according to Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Additionally, Sitake called BYU linebacker Isaiah Glasker \u201cdoubtful\u201d for Friday as well. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re still evaluating yesterday and today, and we\u2019ll probably get more information, but right now it looks, you know, doubtful for both (Martin and Glasker),\u201d Sitake told reporters Monday in his weekly press briefing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Martin, the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, has rushed for 344 yards and three touchdowns already in 2026, even with only logging two carries against TCU prior to his injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Between 2024-25, Glasker posted 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and five interceptions for the Cougars, and he currently ranks fourth on the team with 16 tackles this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Glasker has not missed a game for BYU in either of the past two seasons, while Friday would be Martin\u2019s seventh contest being held out due to injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sitake did offer a positive injury update for defensive back and return specialist Cannon DeVries, calling him \u201cprobable\u201d to play against the Cyclones after his own early exit at TCU. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DeVries is currently BYU\u2019s third-leading tackler, has averaged 16.6 yards per punt return, and took a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in Week 1 against Portland State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cCannon (is) more likely probable, so we\u2019ll see how it looks,\u201d Sitake said. \u201c&#8230; We would anticipate seeing him this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">BYU and Iowa State will kick off Friday at 8:15 p.m. MDT in Provo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50;background-color:#F3F1F0;cursor:pointer\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/JFI556TYVFFGROICIACHN6WH34.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>TCU quarterback Jaden Craig, center, looks to pass the ball as TCU offensive lineman Noah McKinney (58) tries to block BYU linebacker Isaiah Glasker (16) during game Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas. | AP Photo\/LM Otero <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BYU may be without its most impactful offensive player this week.
