Showing us humans what they can do,\u201d a third commenter said.<\/p>\n<p>The dolphins aren\u2019t the only exciting wildlife spotted off the coast of Orange County recently. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, whale watchers aboard a Newport Landing Whale Watching cruise <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/30\/us-news\/el-nino-brings-pod-of-13-killer-whales-to-newport-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spotted a pod of 10 to 13 orcas<\/a>, also known as killer whales, swimming next to their boat.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.68457031;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"41152006\" width=\"404\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/newport-beach-ca-bottlenose-dolphins-143878226.jpg\" alt=\"Two bottlenose dolphins leap out of the ocean while people on a boat capture the moment with their phones.\" class=\"wp-image-41152006\"\/>The dolphins were part of a pod of more than 200 individuals, according to a whale watcher on the boat. Instagram\/@planetwhale<\/p>\n<p>Native to the waters off Mexico and Central America, the killer whales likely moved up north due to the high temperatures of California\u2019s waters a result of El Ni\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>The spotting was the latest in a wave of tropical features descending upon California waters and shores. In August, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/14\/us-news\/hammerhead-shark-spotted-off-malibu-coast-in-viral-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a massive hammerhead shark was spotted<\/a> near Malibu Pier, the first hammerhead sighting in Southern California in nearly a decade. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, two endangered olive green sea turtles <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/22\/us-news\/rare-sea-turtle-lays-eggs-on-oc-beach-in-historical-first\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">laid eggs on California shores<\/a> for the first time in reported history.
