Google may be expanding its \u201cCall for Me\u201d AI feature beyond business calls<\/a> so you can use it to send messages to friends and family. Android Authority<\/a> reports finding a \u201cGemini Calling\u201d introductory screen in an APK teardown with examples that include \u201cCall Mom and tell her I will be 15 minutes late\u201d and \u201cCall John and ask if he is coming for dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on those examples, even with this expansion, Gemini would likely be limited to basic, text message-like calls. While Google\u2019s AI might not automate an entire catch-up phone call with your relatives, it could deliver quick messages to people who prefer a phone call, miss texts often, or even still have a landline phone.<\/p>\n

Android Authority also says it found \u201cgranular permissions\u201d for Gemini actions in individual apps, including what appear to be settings for phone call permissions. These settings would allow users to pick and choose which app capabilities they want to allow Gemini to access, potentially giving users an option to opt out of receiving incoming automated calls from Gemini.
