{"id":872485,"date":"2026-10-06T06:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T06:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/872485\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T06:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T06:38:08","slug":"uw-health-oncologist-encourages-exercise-after-breast-cancer-treatment-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/872485\/","title":{"rendered":"UW Health oncologist encourages exercise after breast cancer treatment | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">MADISON, Wis. \u2014 Finishing breast cancer treatment does not always mean the challenges are over.<\/p>\n<p>Patients may continue to experience fear of recurrence, fatigue and changes in how they feel or function, said Dr. Kim Dittus, an oncologist at the UW Health Carbone Cancer Center.<\/p>\n<p>The end of frequent medical appointments can also leave some patients unsure about what comes next, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment may affect a patient\u2019s range of motion or contribute to lymphedema, a condition that causes swelling. Dittus recommends counseling and occupational therapy to help patients manage the transition after treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExercise helps mental health challenges. It helps address any physical functional weaknesses that an individual may have developed with therapy. It decreases fatigue,\u201d Dittus said. \u201cSo, if there\u2019s one intervention I would recommend for everybody, it is to become more active and get moving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dittus also recommends making healthy food choices and encourages patients to take an active role in their care.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bCOPYRIGHT 2026 BY CHANNEL 3000.
