Loved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSet during the tumultuous time when Altman, OpenAI\u2019s CEO (played by Andrew Garfield), was fired and then rehired by the AI giant in 2023, \u201cArtificial\u201d has faced its own challenges getting to theaters; in June, Neon closed a deal to complete the $40 million film after Amazon MGM Studios dropped the project months earlier after the company signed a major partnership with OpenAI, including a $50 billion investment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDespite how hot-button some may feel the film is, Guadagnino told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/luca-guadagnino-artificial-openai-movie.html?\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vulture<\/a> that he wasn\u2019t \u201cafraid\u201d of Altman\u2019s \u2014 or anyone depicted in the film\u2019s \u2014 response. \u201cI think that people that have a lot of power should be very much aware that you must be responsible for the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnd though Altman never met Garfield, the tech CEO admitted\u00a0in a recent Vanity Fair cover story<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/sam-altman-artificial-filmed-outside-house-waved-andrew-garfield-1236899020\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> that the actor \u201cdid walk like me\u201d<\/a> when he ran into production filming near his house. \u201cOne morning, I was walking down the street to get coffee and there were all these cameras and there was a guy dressed exactly like me with my same backpack walking so much that I felt I was in some weird glitch of the simulation or something,\u201d Altman told Vanity Fair. \u201cIt was very strange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cArtificial\u201d reunited Guadagnino with Garfield, who last worked with the director in 2025\u2019s \u201cAfter the Hunt.\u201d Ike Barinholtz stars as co-founder Elon Musk, Monica Barbaro plays former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, \u201cAnora\u201d breakout Yura Borisov is former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever and Mark Rylance plays Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton.
