Supermassive Games – the developer behind games such as Directive 8020 and the original Until Dawn – seems to have lost over 70 staff today as part of widespread layoffs at the company.<\/p>\n
Supermassive Games previously announced these were coming in August<\/a>. In a statement posted to social media, the developer wrote: “We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues. This is a necessary step to ensure the sustainability of our company.”<\/p>\n To see this content please enable targeting cookies.<\/p>\n Manage cookie settings <\/p>\n Here’s the Directive 8020 announcement trailer.Watch on YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n It seems that this layoff process has concluded as of this week, as now-former IT and facilities director Frank Tindle announced his departure on LinkedIn<\/a> with a fond farewell to other Supermassive staff in the same position as him.<\/p>\n “More than 70 brilliant people are leaving Supermassive: developers, artists, producers, QA, operations and more. Any studio would be lucky to have them. If you’re hiring, DM me and I’ll make the introduction.”<\/p>\n This isn’t the first time Supermassive has suffered job cuts in recent memory. Back in July 2025, the studio announced up to 36 employees would be laid off<\/a>, claiming these cuts would allow them to “adapt our team structure to better align with recent industry changes”. This resulted in the delay of Directive 8020, a game that would go on to release this May.<\/p>\n
