The 2026 U.S. midterm elections are around the corner. Registering to vote and requesting your ballot is fast, easy, and can be done from anywhere in the world. Most U.S. citizens can receive their ballot electronically. U.S. citizens who want to vote in U.S. primary and general elections from overseas should send in a new Federal Post Card Application each year.<\/p>\n

Request Your Ballot <\/p>\n
Complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA)<\/a>. The FPCA allows you to request absentee ballots for all elections for federal offices (President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives) including primaries and special elections during the calendar year in which it is submitted.\u202fMany states provide the option to request ballots through their state election portals, accessible via FVAP.gov<\/a>.\u202fWe encourage you to select the option for receiving your ballot electronically (by email, internet download, or fax) when available.\u202fThis is the fastest way to receive and return your completed ballot before your state\u2019s deadline.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0Receive and Complete Your Ballot
<\/p>\n If you have not yet received your ballot, you may complete a Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot<\/a> which \u2013 in some states \u2013 can also be used to register to vote absentee.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Return Your Completed, Signed Ballot
<\/p>\n 1.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202fSome states allow you to return your completed ballot electronically and others do not.\u202fFollow the instructions received with your ballot.\u202fIf your state requires you to return paper ballots, you can do so through international mail, professional courier service, or DPO.<\/p>\n 2.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202fWhen sending via DPO, you must place your ballot in a postage paid return envelope or in an envelope bearing sufficient U.S. postage to be delivered to the proper local election authorities.
