U.S. equity futures were little changed early Wednesday after the S&P 500 reached a fresh all-time intraday high and a record close in the trading session, driven by a tech stock rally.<\/p>\n
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> were down 0.08%, or 44 points. S&P 500 futures<\/a> rose 0.06%, and Nasdaq-100 futures<\/a> was flat. <\/p>\n In trading on Tuesday, the S&P 500<\/a> gained 0.58%, marking its fourth positive session in a row and closing above a level of 7,800 for the first time ever. The Dow<\/a> gained 0.49% and the Nasdaq Composite<\/a> gained 0.45%.<\/p>\n Chipmakers were the big winners on Tuesday, with Marvell Technology<\/a> gaining 5.8% on higher revenue guidance and Advanced Micro Devices<\/a> climbing 2.8% after Citi hiked its price target, citing rising demand for central processing units.<\/p>\n In Asia, Japan’s\u00a0Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0dropped 0.77%, while South Korea’s Kospi<\/a> fell 1.11%. Australia’s S&P\/ASX 200<\/a> was flat%. Hong Kong’s\u00a0Hang Seng index<\/a> fell 0.53%. Mainland China market remained closed for the Golden Week holiday.<\/p>\n Bond yields took a break on Tuesday from the steady march upward they began at the end of February, coinciding with the start of the U.S.-Israel war on Iran.<\/p>\n The 10-year Treasury<\/a> yield last traded at 5.286% after reaching its highest level since April 2002 on Monday. The 30-year Treasury<\/a> yield was last hovering at 5.661%, and the 2-year slipped to 4.798%.<\/p>\n Despite the reprieve, investors warned Tuesday about falling foreign demand for U.S. debt amid geopolitical pressures.<\/p>\n “The Chinese don’t want to continue to accumulate,” investor Ray Dalio told Bloomberg. “When you have a debtor-creditor relationship and you have an adversary relationship, that’s a very difficult dynamic.”<\/p>\n Energy prices were flat on Tuesday, offering further support to the equity rally. Both West Texas Intermediate crude oil and global benchmark Brent finished up less than 1% in daily trading.<\/p>\n Investors are awaiting the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s last meeting in September, at which the U.S. central bank raised interest rates for the first time since 2023.
