Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Over-the-counter antihistamines and nasal spray can provide quick relief if the symptoms are too unbearable.<\/p>\n<p>Colds are <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/04\/health\/new-tick-borne-virus-that-can-cause-flu-like-illness-discovered-in-china\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">caused by a virus<\/a>, which is often caught through engaging with contaminated surfaces or respiratory activity, according to Southern New Hampshire\u00a0Health.<\/p>\n<p>When an infected person talks, coughs, sneezes or even breathes, they release virus-filled droplets into the air.
