{"id":874187,"date":"2026-10-07T17:46:16","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T17:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/874187\/"},"modified":"2026-10-07T17:46:16","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T17:46:16","slug":"googles-new-synthid-website-can-identify-ai-generated-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/874187\/","title":{"rendered":"Google&#8217;s new SynthID website can identify AI-generated media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google on Tuesday launched <a href=\"https:\/\/synthid.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a new site<\/a> that lets anyone verify whether a piece of media, be it an image, a video, or an audio clip, is generated using AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company made this tool available to select <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/20\/googles-new-synthid-detector-can-help-spot-ai-slop\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">journalists, media professionals, and researchers<\/a> for testing at Google I\/O last year, and is now opening up access to the tool to everyone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, HEIF, TIFF, TIF, and GIF formats for images; MP4, MOV, and WEBM for videos; and WAV, MP3, OGG, FLAC, AAC, and M4A for audio.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"383\" width=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Raccoon_Video_SynthIDDetector.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3174947\"  \/>Image Credits:Google<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google is using SynthID, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/08\/29\/deepmind-partners-with-google-cloud-to-watermark-ai-generated-images\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which it introduced in 2023<\/a>, to identify whether media is AI-generated. The company\u2019s Nano Banana, Veo, and Lyria models, as well as tools with generation capabilities, like Gemini, Flow, ProducerAI, and Vids, all use SynthID to watermark any media they generate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao also support SynthID, and OpenAI maintains <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/research\/verify\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">its own site<\/a> for checking content. Apple is said to be adding support soon, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google has baked SynthID verification into the Gemini app and Google Chrome. The company said people currently make 1 million requests to verify content every day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/05\/23\/microsoft-pledges-to-watermark-ai-generated-images-and-videos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/12\/12\/meta-releases-a-tool-for-watermarking-ai-generated-videos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meta<\/a> have their own standards for watermarking and verifying content.
