Without much of a running game, Cam Ward and the Titans’ offense are stuck in deep mud. The second-year quarterback isn’t playing as poorly as his team’s record might suggest, though. He made a few impressive plays against the Ravens, but when I watch him operate in Tennessee’s scheme, it feels as if OC Brian Daboll hasn’t let his quarterback off the leash. More running opportunities might benefit Ward, who feels too reined in right now to be his best self.

Justin Herbert is trying to play hero amid the Chargers’ latest rash of injuries and is doing so in an offense that still seems too complex for his style. The results were ghastly against the Seahawks: two first-half interceptions, a lost fumble and another dreadful outing for the quarterback, despite a spirited comeback effort.

Next Gen Stats insight (via NFL Pro): Herbert faced pressure on 55.0% of dropbacks, posting a higher pressure rate in only one game last season (Week 14 vs. Eagles). Under pressure, Herbert went 7 of 13 for 101 yards and an interception while taking four sacks, including a strip-sack fumble with a minute left in the fourth quarter to clinch the Seahawks’ win. From a clean pocket, Herbert went 12 of 18 for 88 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Without much of a running game, Cam Ward and the Titans’ offense are stuck in deep mud.
