Welcome to another edition of CNBC&#8217;s Daily Open.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting minutes released Wednesday showed that U.S. Fed officials expect interest rates to increase before year-end, but the meeting summary provided no indication of when specifically it would happen.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Treasury selling $39 billion of 10-year notes in an auction knocked yields off their highs, while the S&amp;P also pulled back from its record high on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>South Korean tech giant Samsung posted a third-quarter preliminary operating profit that exceeded 100 trillion won for the first time in its history, while Lululemon poached Athleta CEO Maggie Gauger.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline0\"\/>What you need to know today<\/p>\n<p>Traders are bracing themselves for another hike from the U.S. Federal Reserve this year, after meeting minutes released Wednesday showed that Fed officials expect to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/07\/fed-officials-see-another-hike-coming-but-no-sign-as-to-when-minutes-show.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">increase interest rates before the end of the year<\/a> in order to fend off inflation that has run above target for more than five years.<\/p>\n<p>However, the meeting summary did not show when the hike would occur \u2013 only that a stable labor market and persistently higher prices would likely lead to a second hike this year. Rates will be decided by the Fed on Oct. 28 and then again on Dec. 9.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury yields <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/07\/treasury-yields-auction-fomc-minutes.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">backed off their highs<\/a> after the Treasury sold $39 billion of 10-year notes in an auction. According to BMO, the sale was &#8220;strong,&#8221; with higher than average bidding from non-dealers.<\/p>\n<p>The benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US10Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10-year Treasury<\/a> note yield reached its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/06\/stock-market-today-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">highest level since April 2002<\/a> at 5.365% on Wednesday. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US30Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">30-year bond<\/a> yield also hit its highest level since May 2002 at 5.732%.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P<\/a> also pulled back from its record high on Wednesday. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> fell 0.66%, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> slipped 0.22%. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a> was 0.22% lower. <\/p>\n<p>In Asia, Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0closed 0.92% lower. South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kospi<\/a> declined nearly 2% and Australia&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> ended flat. Mainland China market remained closed for the Golden Week holiday on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the spotlight is back on South Korea&#8217;s tech sector, after Samsung Electronics posted a third-quarter preliminary operating profit of 107.40 trillion won ($80.2 billion). This is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/08\/samsung-q3-earnings.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first time in its history<\/a> that the company has exceeded 100 trillion won, propelled by booming AI demand. Samsung is expected to release its full third-quarter earnings, including a breakdown by business division, later this month.<\/p>\n<p>In the consumer sector, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/LULU\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lululemon<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.lululemon.com\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2026\/10-07-2026-210554290\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> Wednesday that Athleta CEO Maggie Gauger is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/07\/lululemon-athleta-ceo-maggie-gauger-chief-product-officer.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">joining the company as president and chief product officer<\/a>, with effect from later this month. The news comes as the athleisure space becomes increasingly competitive. <\/p>\n<p>Over in the oil markets, concerns over supply disruptions slightly eased, after member states of the International Energy Agency agreed to help address rising fuel prices by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/07\/oil-prices-today-brent-wti-hormuz.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prioritizing the release of diesel stocks<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u2014Justina Lee<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"headline1\"\/>And finally&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/07\/trump-russia-plague-bioweapon-putin.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump doesn\u2019t think Russia plague incident is bioweapon, plans Putin call Wednesday<\/a><\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> said Wednesday that the U.S. does not think the death of a Russian laboratory worker from a suspected case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/10\/06\/russia-plague-death-trump-offers-us-help.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">plague<\/a> is the result of a bioweapon.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also said he planned to call Russian President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/vladimir-putin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vladimir Putin<\/a>, who turned 74 on Wednesday, later in the day.
