<\/p>\n\n A man was shot during an encounter with federal immigration agents in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon, according to the New York Police Department.\n <\/p>\n
\n Just after 4 p.m., agents with ICE\u2019s Enforcement and Removal Operations \u2014 a branch of ICE focused on arresting undocumented immigrants \u2014 encountered a person they were targeting, according to preliminary information from a law enforcement source.\n <\/p>\n
\n The agents shot into the man\u2019s vehicle while a 5-year-old, who is uninjured, was sitting in the backseat of the car, according to a law enforcement official.\n <\/p>\n
\n The man\u2019s injuries, which included a graze wound to the neck, were not considered life-threatening, and police transported him to the hospital in a police car and did not wait for an ambulance, according to the law enforcement source.\n <\/p>\n

\n The man who was shot by ICE agents is 28 years old and has a criminal history in New York City, according to a law enforcement source.\n <\/p>\n
\n His criminal record includes a 2023 arrest for robbery, to which he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of grand larceny and was placed on probation for five years. He has a pending indictment for the sale of a controlled substance, the source added.\n <\/p>\n
\n Two agents were also injured in the encounter, according to the source, and they also are being treated at a local hospital. One of the agents may have been injured in a car accident, though it\u2019s unclear if the accident was part of the attempted arrest or response, according to a federal official.\n <\/p>\n
\n CNN has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.\n <\/p>\n
\n At the time of the shooting, witnesses reported to police they saw a man dressed in a bright yellow construction vest holding a gun. Witnesses also told officers they heard five to six gunshots and people screaming, according to police officials.\n <\/p>\n
\n Video purportedly from the scene shows a man matching that description holding a semi-automatic rifle and wearing an ICE badge around his neck.\n <\/p>\n
\n NYPD were not involved<\/a> in the incident in the Marble Hill neighborhood just north of Manhattan, the department said in a statement. We are praying for his recovery,\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cGet ICE out of our neighborhoods.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n New York Gov.
