{"id":876384,"date":"2026-10-09T14:22:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T14:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/876384\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T14:22:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T14:22:12","slug":"hurricane-isaias-threatens-to-drive-gas-prices-higher-as-oil-production-slows-down-in-the-gulf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/876384\/","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Isaias threatens to drive gas prices higher as oil production slows down in the Gulf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The timing of Hurricane Isaias is raising new concerns for everyday Americans already feeling the pinch of rising costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">More than 60% of Gulf oil production has already been shut down due to the storm, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsee.gov\/newsroom\/latest-news\/statements-and-releases\/press-releases\/mma-monitors-gulf-response-isaias2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bsee.gov\/newsroom\/latest-news\/statements-and-releases\/press-releases\/mma-monitors-gulf-response-isaias2\">U.S. Marine Minerals Administration\u2019s Thursday report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The Marine Minerals Administration also reported that about 57% of natural gas production in the Gulf has been shut down. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">More than 120 offshore platforms have been evacuated \u2014 roughly 33% of the Gulf\u2019s 371 total manned platforms. Major oil companies including Chevron, BP and Shell have already scaled back non-essential workers and operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The administration\u2019s report indicated about 1.28 million barrels a day in the Gulf have been shut down, compared to an average of nearly 2 million barrels per day. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Nearly 15% of total U.S. crude oil output comes from the Gulf. The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says 99% of all U.S. Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas production comes from the Gulf.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Tom Kloza, Chief Energy Advisor for Gulf Oil, says the timing is the biggest concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cThere is zero \u2014 zero tolerance for any refining losses in the US,\u201d he said in an interview on CNN\u2019s \u201cThe Lead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Temporary evacuations are not uncommon when storms threaten the Gulf \u2014 the longer-term impact will depend on factors like damage to platforms.
