\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s on the back burner at the moment,\u201d Danny Boyle<\/a> concluded this afternoon during a Q&A at the London Film Festival<\/a> when asked about the current status of 28 Years Later: Part III.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe veteran British filmmaker continued to say he \u201chopes\u201d the film will be made if financing can be locked in. Boyle added that the pause in the film series has also been prompted by Alex Garland\u2019s busy schedule.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAlex has been off doing his own film, which is a huge project,\u201d Boyle said.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlex Garland is currently working on A24\u2019s big-screen adaptation of the hit video game Elden Ring.<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle is at the LFF<\/a> this year with his latest feature Ink, which screens as one of the festival\u2019s headline galas. Directed by Boyle from a screenplay written by James Graham (Dear England), the film charts the rise of the UK\u2019s notorious tabloid newspaper The Sun in the 1970s under the editorship of Larry Lamb, after he was poached from the Daily Mirror in 1969 by then budding media mogul Rupert Murdoch.<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle told the LFF crowd that he and his producing team felt specific \u201cpressures\u201d while trying to finance Ink.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe found it very difficult to raise the money for this,\u201d Boyle said. \u201cI have no idea why. They didn\u2019t say why they wouldn\u2019t give us the money. We managed to get the money from StudioCanal. They didn\u2019t give us enough money, but they were brave, whereas a lot of people wouldn\u2019t give us the money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle said his personal theory about why StudioCanal coughed up the money for Ink is because his producer, Tessa Ross, previously worked on the box office hit Conclave with the company.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019d made them so much money,\u201d Boyle said, adding he was very lucky that \u201cStudioCanal hooked up with Netflix and they bought it for America. They\u2019ve been really good partners because there have been pressures.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle said he will next work on an Antarctica-set film if he can raise the budget.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat\u2019s the next priority,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
