Thom Yorke<\/a> has admitted that he wishes that he\u2019d never wrote Radiohead<\/a>\u2018s classic hit \u2018High And Dry\u2019.<\/p>\n

The song, which peaked at Number 17 in the UK singles chart when it was released in 1995, is among their greatest songs. It featured on their second LP \u2018The Bends\u2019 which was released the same year.<\/p>\n

In a new conversation with Harry Styles<\/a> for Rolling Stone<\/a>, the former One Direction<\/a> man recalled how Yorke discussed songwriting in a podcast interview, where he said he likes to think of his voice as one of the instruments in a song.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that something you noticed, when that changed for you?\u201d Styles asked. \u201cBecause you say you don\u2019t so much sit and write a song, like, \u2018I\u2019m going to sit here, and this is a song and this is how it goes\u2019 \u2013 you think of how it sits in the production. But obviously, if you go back to \u2018The Bends\u2019, for example, like \u2018High And Dry,\u2019 that is a song.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Yorke responded: \u201cYeah, a guy with an acoustic guitar. Singing his song. That particular one I wish I hadn\u2019t [grimaces], but there\u2019s nothing wrong with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI don\u2019t listen to a lot of singer-songwriters. I listen to a lot of mad old folk music, or I listen to film music, or I listen to electronic music. The banging away on the guitar thing is sometimes when it really speaks to me, but not a lot. I\u2019m not quite sure why that is \u2013 probably because we grew up when there was a real renaissance of that, and \u2018The Bends\u2019 was that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the same interview, Yorke also shared that he was already sick of the Radiohead album \u2018OK Computer\u2019 by the time that it was first released<\/a>, and was itching to \u201cmove on\u201d from it by the time they heading on tour.<\/p>\n

\u2018OK Computer\u2019 went five-times platinum in the UK, and went on to sell more than 4.5million copies. It contains their two highest-charting singles: \u2018Paranoid Android\u2019 and \u2018No Surprises\u2019. In NME\u2018s original album review<\/a>, we gave it 10\/10 and called it \u201ca landmark record of the 1990s\u201d.<\/p>\n

The interview with Styles comes following Radiohead announcing their long-awaited live return in September last year<\/a>, marking their first shows together in over seven years. They went on to play 20 arena dates across Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin that November and December.<\/p>\n

Also in the new interview, Yorke revealed that their 2025 reunion tour led to a \u201cmassive\u201d crash in his self-confidence that took months to recover from<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Harry Styles presented Yorke with a prestigious Ivor Novello Fellowship and paid tribute to Radiohead as his \u201cfavourite band\u201d<\/a> and made the memorable admission: \u201cI lost my virginity to \u2018Talk Show Host\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
