The Texans were one of two teams to change a play-caller this week, with head coach DeMeco Ryans taking the defensive play-calling duties back from coordinator Matt Burke. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s a return to their former status, as Ryans held play-calling duties in his first two seasons as Houston\u2019s head coach before turning them over to Burke last year. <\/p>\n
Still, it\u2019s a demotion for Burke, with the Texans currently No. 20 in yards allowed and No. 27 in points allowed.<\/p>\n
The club finished last year at No. 1 in yards allowed and No. 2 in points allowed.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously a little disappointed, not even about me, just obviously I think we\u2019re all disappointed in where we\u2019re at and how we performed and being 0-4 at this point,\u201d Burke said in his Thursday press conference. \u201cDeMeco and I have a very honest relationship. He just said, \u2018I think we need to spark a change.\u2019 I said, \u2018OK, what do you need from me?\u2019 He said, \u2018I just need to keep game planning and working on the plan with me through the week, and same as we\u2019ve always done.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, that\u2019s what we\u2019re going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Burke added, \u201cwe\u2019ll see\u201d what the change in play-caller will mean for any variations in the scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cAgain, I think just obviously things haven\u2019t gone well,\u201d Burke said. \u201cI think we\u2019ll all be honest to admit that. Not the way we wanted to. Sometimes you have to just sort of try to spark a change and just see something different and see if something else clicks. To adjust to those roles a little bit. Hopefully it shows on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just think we haven\u2019t performed the way we all want to perform,\u201d Burke continued. \u201cWhen you get to this point, you just got to keep doing the same thing and probably expecting different results. We have to just try to change things up a little bit. We\u2019ll go see how it looks.
