\n\tNBC<\/a>\u2018s upcoming sitcom Newlyweds<\/a>, starring T\u00e8a Leoni and Tim Daly and featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, is undergoing a behind-the-scenes shakeup. Gail Lerner<\/a>, who co-created the series with Curtis, is out as showrunner. The comedy veteran, who started her career on NBC\u2019s Will & Grace, announced her firing on Instagram while plugging the show\u2019s Oct. 23 premiere.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe reason I\u2019ve been given is \u2018creative differences\u2019,\u201d Lerner wrote. \u201cI\u2019m so sad to be separated from the most joyous TV experience of my life. The cast, crew, and writers are unparalleled.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLerner added a \u201csilver lining\u201d: \u201cThe first six episodes were made under my leadership, and I wouldn\u2019t change a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to sources, Newlyweds is scheduled to film Episode 8 of its 13-episode order today. The show is going on a pre-planned hiatus next week. NBC and the series\u2019 studio Universal Television are expected to use the time to find a new showrunner. <\/p>\n

\n\tWritten by Lerner, Newlyweds is a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman (Leoni) and a buttoned-up professor (Leoni\u2019s real-life husband Daly) who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.<\/p>\n

\n\tLerner and Curtis executive produce alongside Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz and Lionsgate Television. Leoni is a producer. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo one knows what\u2019s going to happen in our meshuganah business, but I predict this show\u2019s gonna be a barn burner,\u201d Lerner wrote. \u201cPlease check out the first six (and beyond!). \n\tAt NBC\u2019s fall preview press event held in August, Lerner spoke about Newlyweds\u2019 long road to the screen and gave props to the network, which has now taken her off the show. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJamie brought me this idea during the pandemic, so we\u2019ve been really generating it for a very long time,\u201d she said. \u201cFor a million various reasons, it was hibernating for a while, and a lot of people say my project died, but I just knew my project was hibernating. And then NBC called literally in November of 2025 and said, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s do that show,\u2019 and we were off to the races. So it was just amazing that NBC is reinvesting in multi-cam and bringing back must see TV.
