Baltimore City’s health commissioner assumed command of the District of Columbia Air National Guard’s 113th Medical Group.<\/p>\n

Dr. Michelle Taylor took command Sunday at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George’s County, BCHD announced Friday. Taylor will continue her duties as health commissioner while serving in the DC Air National Guard with the 113th Wing.<\/p>\n

“My military training and experience have prepared me to lead the Baltimore City Health Department and protect our residents and communities,” Taylor said in a statement. “I am grateful for the opportunity and the support to serve in both roles.”<\/p>\n

She has more than 16 years of service with the Air National Guard in both Maryland and Tennessee.<\/p>\n

As commander of the 113th Medical Group, Taylor leads the health care team to ensure the 113th Wing’s service members remain medically ready. She joined the DC Air National Guard from the Tennessee Air National Guard, where she served as chief of aerospace medicine for the 164th Medical Group.<\/p>\n

Taylor began her Air Force career in 2010 as a captain and public health officer for the Maryland Air National Guard’s 175th Airlift Wing.<\/p>\n

“We are proud of Commissioner Taylor and her new role as medical group commander at the 113th Wing, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. Her service as health commissioner for Baltimore City and as a national public health leader is truly inspiring,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said in a statement. “We are confident that her experience and training will enable her to continue delivering public health services and protecting everyone who lives, works, and visits in Baltimore.”<\/p>\n

In both positions, Taylor leads health teams to support medical readiness, manage preventive medicine programs, oversee emergency preparedness, and control disease. <\/p>\n

“It is an honor to join the Medical Group at the 113th Wing, Joint Base Andrews,” Taylor said in a statement. “The military has been a significant part of my life, as I follow in the footsteps of my father, my brother, and my mother, Rita Works, a retired major general in the Air National Guard.
