Help ProPublica Understand Your Health Insurance Denial. \u2014 ProPublica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, many of America\u2019s largest health insurers vowed to reduce their use of prior authorization \u2014 the extra layer of approval insurers require before covering a medical expense. The industry\u2019s pledge came after massive backlash to the process from patients, providers and politicians. ProPublica\u2019s reporting has found it can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/evicore-health-insurance-denials-cigna-unitedhealthcare-aetna-prior-authorizations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">delay or outright deny<\/a> patients\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/cigna-medical-director-doctor-patient-preapproval-denials-insurance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">critical medical care<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data as of last year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/patient-consumer-protections\/prior-authorization-metrics-provide-new-insights-into-insurer-practices-but-gaps-remain\/#3d92c4bd-aec1-4154-858d-5f9c5d5cbac9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shows<\/a> the industry is still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.authdenied.com\/research\/prior-authorization-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">relying heavily<\/a> on the approval process. Now, ProPublica is looking into the ways that insurers\u2019 continued use of prior authorization is impacting patients. We need your help to figure out if prior authorization is still leading to delayed or missed treatments, tests, medical equipment or medication.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are covered by a plan through Medicaid, Medicare, Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program, or the Affordable Care Act marketplace \u2014 and have had a prior authorization request delayed or denied \u2014 we want to hear from you. Your experiences help us better understand the real-life stakes of prior authorization. (For this investigation, we\u2019re not seeking responses from people with insurance through their employer at this time.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re also interested in hearing from people whose jobs provide insight into the inner workings of prior authorization, including medical providers and their staff, along with insurance company employees and regulators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our team may not be able to respond to everyone personally, but we will read everything you submit.
