Olivia Rodrigo<\/a> has revealed that she spent an \u201cexorbitant amount of money\u201d buying the dress worn by Meg White<\/a> on the cover of The White Stripes<\/a>\u2019 classic album \u2018Elephant\u2019.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Rodrigo discussed her long-standing love for the band and revealed that she now owns one of the duo\u2019s most recognisable pieces of memorabilia.<\/p>\n

The vintage white Gunne Sax dress was worn by drummer White for the artwork of the band\u2019s 2003 fourth album \u2018Elephant\u2019, which features her and Jack White<\/a> sitting either side of an elephant trunk-shaped rope against the duo\u2019s trademark red backdrop.<\/p>\n

It was put up for sale by Julien\u2019s Auctions in May, with an estimated value of between $4,000 (\u00a33,000) and $6,000 (\u00a34,500), but ultimately sold for $25,600 (\u00a319,000).<\/p>\n

Rodrigo has now confirmed that she was the successful bidder, describing the purchase as an \u201cexorbitant amount of money\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

She had originally hoped to wear the dress while performing at her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival<\/a> in California in August, but reconsidered because it was \u201ctoo fucking hot\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe if I do Daisy Chain in the winter, I can wear it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Rodrigo\u2019s admiration for The White Stripes stretches back years. When she first met Jack White in 2022<\/a>, she described him as her \u201chero of all heroes\u201d, while White returned the compliment.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s very cool, very real and very much a lover of music,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cShe\u2019s also introducing another set of youth to the love of vinyl records as well. Respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

White also became something of a mentor to Rodrigo as she worked on her second album \u2018Guts\u2019. She later revealed that he had written her a letter containing the advice<\/a>: \u201cYour only job is to write music that you would want to hear on the radio.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their connection continued at The White Stripes\u2019 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in 2025<\/a>, where Rodrigo called \u2018Seven Nation Army\u2019 the \u201cmost iconic song of all time\u201d.<\/p>\n

She and Feist<\/a> then performed an acoustic rendition of \u2018We\u2019re Going To Be Friends\u2019, while Twenty One Pilots<\/a> covered \u2018Seven Nation Army\u2019.<\/p>\n

Rodrigo has continued to cite rock and alternative music as a major influence on her own work.
