A Maryland man is facing charges over a scheme for\u00a0tens of millions of dollars in healthcare fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Marc Aaron Potash, 57, of Rockville, faces seven counts of healthcare fraud connected to as much as $100 million in fake claims to Medicare, Medicaid, the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program and other insurers. Potash is also charged with five counts of conducting transactions in criminally derived proceeds, according to a news release. <\/p>\n
According to the indictment, between 2022 and May 2026, Potash and a company located in Gaithersburg called Tiero, schemed to get money through false claims to insurers claiming they were a COVID-19 testing facility with an in-house lab.<\/p>\n
The indictment also claims that Potash \u201cand his co-conspirators sent false emails, letters, and paperwork to the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) to obtain a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments certification for Tiero.\u201d <\/p>\n
Instead, they would just send over-the-counter tests to these insured people and then file false claims according to court documents. They filed for over $100 million in fraudulent claims and gathered nearly $50 million.<\/p>\n
The indictment alleges that Potash made several large purchases with the money, including a Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz, and $4 million in property in Beallsville, along with two security transfers totaling more than $4 million and $8 million.<\/p>\n
If convicted, Potash faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud. <\/p>\n
