You have the whole duty of care to think about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn the past, Phillips said there have been naysayers who chide, \u201cGod forbid the BBC should do a reality show,\u201d but more are now understanding the power of unscripted, which she described as \u201cheartening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAccording to Phillips, there were around 6 billion hours of unscripted watched across the BBC last year, while 70% of the corporation\u2019s content mix is now unscripted. She said big brands like <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-traitors\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-traitors\" data-tag=\"the-traitors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Traitors<\/a> are causing a \u201chalo effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith big beasts like The Traitors and Strictly Come Dancing, BBC entertainment boss <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ed-havard\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ed-havard\" data-tag=\"ed-havard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Havard<\/a> said he believes \u201cwe have the best ecosystem to back an unscripted show\u201d at present, as he pointed to \u201cour [flexible] rights deals and the sheer scale of what we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNext \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/top-gear\/\" id=\"auto-tag_top-gear\" data-tag=\"top-gear\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top Gear<\/a>\u2018 presenter<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHavard, one of the architects behind the BBC-NBC Traitors deal, also updated on the BBC\u2019s Top Gear reboot, joking about how many presenter pitches he is getting at the moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThere are so many people who think they can present Top Gear who are emailing to say, \u2018I could present Top Gear\u2018 with a reel,\u201d he added. \u201cI forward all the emails on to [producer] BBC Studios.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPhillips and Havard were speaking at MIPCOM. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Kate Phillips, the BBC\u2019s content chief, has a message for reality TV snobs.
