Chris Simms, a longtime analyst on NBC\u2019s \u201cFootball Night in America,\u201d remains befuddled by his exit from the program<\/a> after seven seasons.<\/p>\n

According to Simms, NBC\u2019s internal grades assured him he was one of the show\u2019s strongest voices throughout his tenure until he was informed in April he wouldn\u2019t return to the program.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt stings I\u2019m not on that show anymore,\u201d Simms told Barrett Media\u2019s John Mamola<\/a>. \u201cI did love doing it, and it kind of felt like it was coming that way. When they tell you you\u2019re awesome on the show and grading higher than anybody every week, then you don\u2019t get to go on the show in the future, you\u2019re a little confused by it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simms was part of NBC\u2019s shakeup for its \u201cSunday Night Football\u201d pregame show. Tony Dungy\u2019s 17-year run with the network came to an end after last season, as he announced in March<\/a>. Rodney Harrison and Jac Collinsworth also weren\u2019t brought back.<\/p>\n

Mike Tomlin was the biggest addition<\/a> as NBC\u2019s newest lead studio analyst, putting him alongside Maria Taylor, Jason Garrett and Devin McCourty. The foursome is traveling to the site of every \u201cSunday Night Football\u201d game this season. <\/p>\n

Simms continues to work with the network, co-hosting \u201cPFT Live\u201d with Mike Florio and hosting \u201cUnbuttoned\u201d with Connor Rogers, as well as doing work on their college football coverage. While he thinks Tomlin has done well on the panel, Simms doesn\u2019t believe it will be a long-term fit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t see him staying long term. He\u2019s really good at it, but I think he\u2019s a great coach,\u201d Simms said. \u201cHe\u2019s a great leader of men. Also, the best communicator of any coach I\u2019ve ever been in a locker room with. But the way they\u2019re paying these coaches now, if there\u2019s a situation he likes, I don\u2019t think he\u2019ll turn it down.
