\n\tPaul McCartney<\/a> has a bone to pick with Sam Mendes<\/a>, the director of the upcoming four Beatles movies starring Paul Mescal<\/a> as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. What\u2019s the issue? It all comes down to how tall Mescal is compared to his co-stars.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe were all the same height!\u201d McCartney declared on the \u201cGood Hang\u201d podcast, noting how movies based on the Beatles wrongly depict him as shorter than his bandmates. \u201cWe were all the same height, and Ringo was a bit smaller. And if you look at photos, we\u2019re all the same height.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGuess what?\u201d McCartney added about Mescal. \u201cHe is smaller than the guy who plays John. Sam Mendes is making the film. I said, \u2018Sam, I\u2019ve got just one thing that I need to say to you. You know, Paul [Mescal is] a bit smaller.\u2019 I don\u2019t know how Sam\u2019s gonna deal with it. He sent me a picture, a still from the filming they were doing, and they\u2019re crossing the Abbey Road crossing, and the Paul character is markedly smaller. I texted him: \u2018Sam! Smaller? Don\u2019t do this! You said you wouldn\u2019t do it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMcCartney also once expressed his frustration to Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of 2009\u2019s \u201cNowhere Boy,\u201d which starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a teenage John Lennon. Thomas Brodie-Sangster had a supporting role as McCartney in the biographical drama but is shorter than Taylor-Johnson.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe John character, who she later married, Aaron \u2014 he\u2019s bigger than me in the film,\u201d McCartney said. \u201cMy character is kind of wimpy. Smaller than John. John knocks me to the floor. And it\u2019s like, \u2018Sam, this is not true!\u2019 Her only explanation, bless her, because she\u2019s still a good friend, she said, \u2018This is a movie, it\u2019s not a documentary.\u2019 And I thought, \u2018Well, I don\u2019t like that explanation.\u2019 But I couldn\u2019t do anything, because by now she\u2019d made the film. There was I, little Paul. John, the great big hero, and it\u2019s like: No! It\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMendes is directing four Beatles movies, one centered on each of the band members. The project, officially titled \u201cThe Beatles \u2013 A Four-Film Cinematic Event,\u201d has the backing of Sony Pictures and is currently in the middle of its year-long production. All four movies will be released theatrically in April 2028.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe want people to be able to experience them in the cinema at the same during the same period,\u201d producer Pippa Harris recently said at the BFI London Film Festival<\/a>, noting she does not expect audiences to \u201csee all four films on the same day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWithin the same month \u2014 you might see one a week, or you might see one weekend and two the next and one the next. However you see it, I think our hope is that people will see all four films,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
