A man arrested in a Chicago<\/a> suburb had shared a \u2060document expressing white supremacist views and outlined an alleged plan to carry out a mass shooting, potentially targeting a Hindu place of worship, police \u2060said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Alexandros Paporakis, 19, was \u200barrested on Sunday after an individual reported receiving concerning electronic communications from him, Palatine police said. It was not immediately clear if he had \u2060legal representation.<\/p>\n

Detectives had executed a search warrant at Paporakis\u2019s residence and recovered a rifle, multiple loaded rifle magazines and hundreds of rounds of additional rifle ammunition, police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmong \u2060the recovered items was a tactical vest containing body armor and a patch displaying imagery associated \u200bwith white supremacist extremism,\u201d Palatine police added.<\/p>\n

Detectives examined \u200celectronic communications and a document attributed \u200cto Paporakis \u2013 \u201cWhy I Fought: A.K.A.: (Aurora Shooter\u2019s Manifesto)\u201d \u2013 which had statements expressing white supremacist and extremist ideologies, including \u200creferences to violence directed toward individuals of south Asian heritage, particularly those of Indian descent.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s foreign ministry said it was \u201cdeeply concerned\u201d by the incident, and its \u201canti-Hindu and racist nature\u201d was \u201cparticularly disturbing\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect US authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter, bring those responsible to justice, and take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents,\u201d it said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The statement comes days before the US secretary \u200cof state, Marco Rubio, visits India, and as long-running efforts to finalize a bilateral trade agreement between the countries have stalled again.<\/p>\n

Detectives believe Paporakis may have been \u200bplanning to carry out an attack on 11 October, potentially targeting a Hindu place of worship in Aurora.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, the specific intended location has not been confirmed and remains under investigation,\u201d the police said, adding the FBI was assisting in the investigation.<\/p>\n

Police said after consultation \u2060with prosecutors from the Cook county state\u2019s attorney\u2019s office, Paporakis faced felony charges of \u201cmaking \u200ba terrorist threat\u201d and \u200bunlawful weapon possession.<\/p>\n

The suspect appeared for a \u200bdetention hearing on Wednesday where a judge ordered him detained, according to police, \u200bwho said his next court \u200cappearance was scheduled \u200bfor 30 October.<\/p>\n
