CHURCHVILLE, Va. (WHSV) – With Election Day three weeks away, community members gathered Wednesday in Staunton, Churchville and Buena Vista to call attention to health care access and recent clinic closures in the Shenandoah Valley.<\/p>\n
Two of the three protest locations housed health care facilities that Augusta Medical Group closed in 2025 following the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.<\/p>\n
Those who attended said the rally was to defend people impacted by health care cuts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just have to remember that we need to care about our neighbors,\u201d community member Makayla Venable said. \u201cParty lines to the side, we are a community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Community members stood outside the former building holding signs and waving at passing cars.<\/p>\n
Venable said they believe the bill\u2019s health care cuts caused more harm than help for patients.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one should have to drive 25 minutes to the nearest hospital. I know people say things like telehealth and all these things, which are important too. I\u2019ve used it when I had a cold. But if you\u2019re having a heart attack or anything serious, telehealth can\u2019t help you,\u201d Venable said.<\/p>\n
WHSV reached out to Augusta Health for comment.<\/p>\n
Augusta Health said it did not organize Wednesday\u2019s events or participate in them, but acknowledged the community\u2019s concerns.<\/p>\n

As the day ended in Buena Vista, protesters said they will keep fighting up until Election Day \u2014 Nov. 3 \u2014 and beyond.<\/p>\n
