Susan Collins (R-Maine), informed Maine’s Total Coverage that the senator’s office in Portland received a letter with a suspicious substance on Friday.

The spokesperson said the letter was intercepted and that no one was injured. According to the spokesperson, law enforcement is investigating the incident.

WMTW’s sky cam in Portland captured video Friday afternoon showing a fire engine and an ambulance stopped on Middle Street near Fidelity Investments, which is located at 190 Middle St. The address for Collins’ Portland office is 200 Middle St.

“Thank you to the Portland police, the Portland Fire Department, the hazmat team, and the FBI for their quick and courageous response,” Katie Brown, Collins’ chief of staff, said in a statement to Maine’s Total Coverage. “This was the fourth attack targeting Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester, a Delaware Democrat, said in a statement that it was sent a letter with a “suspicious substance” that was intercepted by Capitol Police. Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of California said the Postal Service intercepted a suspicious package before it reached his office. And Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said postal inspectors intercepted a suspicious piece of mail addressed to her New York City office.

Mailed packages containing a powdery substance led to the evacuation this week of election offices in at least two states, Louisiana and Oklahoma. The Ohio secretary of state said the Postal Service intercepted a package containing a white powder intended for its office and noted that similar mailings had been sent to election officials in multiple states. Numerous states, from Idaho to Florida, said their election offices either received letters or had them intercepted by the Postal Service.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission said in a statement that it received a letter and the white powder enclosed in it was not hazardous, according to tests. “Let this be very clear: this incident will not shake us,” Wisconsin elections administrator Meagan Wolfe said.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Spokesperson for the Senate Appropriations Committee, which Collins chairs, says a note was also sent to the senator’s…

[2
371318,29436,2724,4,450,139465,451,10072,14849,371320,10482,14971,371325,3,18223,371321,31893,371323,209524,371324,371319,721,31474,318855,16329,371322,452,453,14972
post-884819","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news","tag-200-middle-street","tag-address","tag-associated-press","tag-breaking-news","tag-breakingnews","tag-federal-investigation","tag-headlines","tag-incident","tag-letter","tag-letter-with-suspicious-substance","tag-maine","tag-maines-total-coverage","tag-middle-st","tag-news","tag-portland","tag-portland-office","tag-postal-service","tag-related-election-office","tag-secretary","tag-sen-collins","tag-sen-susan-collins","tag-senate-appropriations-committee","tag-spokesperson","tag-state-office","tag-statement","tag-suspicious-substance","tag-top-stories","tag-topstories","tag-wmtw
["GET
