{"id":885672,"date":"2026-10-17T16:04:18","date_gmt":"2026-10-17T16:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/885672\/"},"modified":"2026-10-17T16:04:18","modified_gmt":"2026-10-17T16:04:18","slug":"two-deer-test-positive-for-cwd-on-the-menominee-reservation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/885672\/","title":{"rendered":"Two deer test positive for CWD on the Menominee Reservation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KESHENA (WLUK) &#8212; Two deer have tested positive for <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.wisconsin.gov\/topic\/wildlifehabitat\/cwd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">chronic wasting disease <\/a>on the Menominee Reservation.<\/p>\n<p>The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin says one deer was harvested in the Jackson Creek area and the other was harvested near Southeast Pine Lake.<\/p>\n<p>All positive CWD results to date have come in the southeast corner of the reservation.<\/p>\n<p>With the positive tests, the reservation is reminding hunters about its longstanding ordinance banning deer baiting.<\/p>\n<p>Chronic wasting disease is a fatal, infectious disease that affects the nervous systems of deer, moose, elk and reindeer or caribou. It was first detected in Wisconsin in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>There are no known cases of human infection from contact with deer or venison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"KESHENA (WLUK) &#8212; Two deer have tested positive for chronic wasting disease on the Menominee Reservation.
