The New York Times is out with a lengthy story about the OJ Simpson case that challenges the popular narrative of what happened on the night of the killings—and may answer what happened to the murder weapon. The story suggests that Simpson enlisted a friend, Joseph “Joey” Ippolito, to help after the killings. According to Ippolito’s brother Sam, Joey returned home with blood on his hands and a bag containing a heavy object, then asked Sam to dispose of it while he showered. Sam told the Times that he tossed the bag in dumpster at a nearby construction site. The story raises the possibility that the bag contained the murder weapon, but the account does not establish what was inside. Joey Ippolito, who died in 2006 and was a convicted drug trafficker and mafia associate, knew Simpson through their mutual friend, Al Cowlings, according to the story.

Ippolito became a government informant on a range of issues, including the Simpson case, because he provided details of Simpson’s volatile relationship with ex Nicole Brown Simpson. But Sam Ippolito said his brother’s involvement went well beyond what he told investigators. The brother’s account bears similarities to the hypothetical scenario Simpson described in his book If I Did It, in which an accomplice helps dispose of evidence. The story also suggests that Joey Ippolito was waiting at a private airport for Simpson and Cowlings the day of their infamous slow-speed Bronco police chase, potentially in an effort to help Simpson leave the area. Read the full story, which notes that Sam recanted his story when he later asked the Times for compensation and was rebuffed.

[18
23,3,132194,21,19,22,20,25,24
post-886848","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-united-states","tag-america","tag-news","tag-oj-simpson","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
