Sheyvette Dinkens, author and founder of Women Empowerment, a Topeka nonprofit organization, visited Milk & Honey Coffee Co. to highlight her new book “Deceived But Not Destroyed.” The book is a sequel to “Bruised But Not Broken.”

All the proceeds from the Topeka stop went towards Highland Park High School. The school is a former community partner of Women Empowerment and once hosted the organization’s “Save Your Self” program.

“Returning to Topeka is about more than releasing a book. It is about honoring the connections that helped shape the work of Women Empowerment and giving back to a community that has been part of our journey,” Dinkens said in a press release. “Highland Park High School was once a partner in this mission, and I am excited to have an opportunity to pour back into a place where we once poured into students.”

Dinkens said Saturday’s pop-up “went wonderfully” and inspired a new event, planned for February 2027, celebrating Black authors, literacy, and the power of storytelling.

“That’s one of the things I love about Topeka: there is always an opportunity to collaborate, build meaningful connections, and turn a great idea into something that benefits the community,” Dinkens said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what grows from this experience!”
