{"id":887286,"date":"2026-10-19T03:24:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T03:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/887286\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T03:24:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T03:24:09","slug":"gang-related-stabbing-during-half-moon-bay-pumpkin-festival-revelry-leads-to-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/887286\/","title":{"rendered":"Gang-related stabbing during Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival revelry leads to arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 34-year-old Pacifica man was arrested for attempted murder Saturday evening after a stabbing on Main Street where revelers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/10\/12\/half-moon-bay-pumpkin-contest-minnesota-grower-fifth-title\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival<\/a> were still celebrating.<\/p>\n<p>Both the suspect and the 31-year-old victim who was injured and hospitalized in stable condition are believed to be involved in gang activities, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff.<\/p>\n<p>Nearby deputies arrested Ricardo Raya after observing him fleeing the area before tossing a knife, a sheriff\u2019s office news release said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeputies quickly located Raya, placed him into custody and recovered the knife,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Cheeseman, owner of nearby San Benito House cantina, captured the altercation on his security video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were in the street for about 10 minutes and then somebody else came out and started pointing at them and that\u2019s what started it,\u201d Cheeseman said in a phone interview Sunday. \u201cIt was just a couple people that were young and not making good decisions. They were just shoving each other around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pumpkin festival attracted upwards of 60,000 people Saturday, Cheeseman estimated, and by 8:30 p.m. when the stabbing occurred, many partiers were still on Main Street carrying cans of beer and \u201cbuzzballs\u201d \u2013 pre-mixed, ready-to-drink cocktails sold in convenience stores.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe street stays closed all day and all night,\u201d Cheeseman said. \u201cThey just keep kind of going up and down the street. It\u2019s just people being very drunk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raya was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder and participating in a criminal gang street.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff\u2019s Office at 650-363-4911.
