NME\u2019s latest stars of The Cover<\/a>, Radio Free Alice<\/a>, have created an exclusive playlist to accompany the story\u2019s launch \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The Australian indie<\/a> band are on this week\u2019s (October 19) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME\u2019s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover \u2013 you can read Radio Free Alice\u2019s profile here<\/a>, written by Jordan Bassett and featuring photography by Tom Oxley.<\/p>\n

The four-piece have curated an exclusive playlist to accompany their appearance on The Cover, titled \u2018Melbourne Friends\u2019. The collection features artists from their local scene, including Dumbhead, Rain Dogs, HighSchool<\/a>, former The Cover stars The Belair Lip Bombs<\/a>, and more. Radio Free Alice are set to release their debut album \u2018What\u2019s In Between\u2019 on October 30, and in The Cover, they discuss their path to their first album \u2013 a journey that started when frontman Noah Learmonth and guitarist Jules Paradiso met as teenagers. \u201cWhen you\u2019re 14, 15, having someone that you can freely play music with or fuck around with is so important and exciting, as opposed to just doing it yourself,\u201d Paradiso recalls of when the pair first started collaborating. \u201cAfter a few years of doing it together, you start to realise: \u2018Oh, shit, OK \u2013 maybe there\u2019s a little nugget of something that we can actually move forward with.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The band have evolved into an ambitious prospect \u2013 one that isn\u2019t afraid to really go for their goals. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people who don\u2019t want to say they wanna be a really big band and then not be a big band and feel awkward about it,\u201d explains Learmonth. \u201cBut then, as a result, no one manifests it, and everyone\u2019s just making cassette tapes played in share houses to hipsters, so they\u2019re not getting big. It\u2019s this self-fulfilling prophecy. We never felt that we had to pretend not to be ambitious because there\u2019s too many people in our genre pretending not to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
