{"id":888310,"date":"2026-10-20T01:22:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-20T01:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/888310\/"},"modified":"2026-10-20T01:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-20T01:22:09","slug":"northeastern-welcomes-largest-freshman-class-announces-record-breaking-financial-aid-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/888310\/","title":{"rendered":"Northeastern welcomes largest freshman class, announces record-breaking financial aid investment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northeastern welcomed its <a href=\"https:\/\/news.northeastern.edu\/2026\/10\/07\/northeastern-enrollment-financial-aid-2026-27\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">largest-ever undergraduate class<\/a> this fall, with more than 7,200 students, according to an Oct. 7 university announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Northeastern received a record 106,300 applicants for the Class of 2030, marking the <a href=\"https:\/\/huntnewsnu.com\/91058\/campus\/northeastern-receives-record-number-of-undergraduate-applications-for-2026-27-academic-year\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second year in a row<\/a> that the school received more than 100,000 applicants, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.northeastern.edu\/2026\/10\/07\/northeastern-enrollment-financial-aid-2026-27\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Northeastern Global News<\/a>, the university-run media outlet. The university also announced it invested a record amount of $525 million in financial aid for the 2026-2027 academic year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This fall, the Boston campus enrolled 2,820 first-year undergraduate students. Northeastern\u2019s Oakland, London and New York campuses accepted 920, 980 and 485 students, respectively. Additionally, 1,130 undergraduate students are spending their first semester in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nuin.northeastern.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">N.U.in program<\/a>, studying at one of the eight partner locations. (This year, students chose between the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Spain.)\u00a0 Including students enrolled in the <a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.northeastern.edu\/academics\/specialized-entry-programs\/nu-immerse\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Immerse program<\/a> and transfer students, more than 7,200 students joined the Northeastern community this year, a university spokesperson told The News.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The university reported that 60% of undergraduate students at Northeastern receive financial assistance, including both merit scholarships and need-based grants. The university\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/studentfinance.northeastern.edu\/applying-for-aid\/undergraduate\/the-northeastern-promise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Northeastern Promise<\/a> initiative guarantees students aid \u201cthroughout [their] enrollment,\u201d allowing them to \u201cplan for the entire cost of [their] degree,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/studentfinance.northeastern.edu\/applying-for-aid\/undergraduate\/the-northeastern-promise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Student Financial Services<\/a>. The university provides students who are eligible for federal financial aid with a financing plan based on their demonstrated need, which is increased annually at the same percentage rate as tuition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year, the Boston campus\u2019 acceptance rate <a href=\"https:\/\/huntnewsnu.com\/93738\/primary-homepage\/northeastern-acceptance-rate-rises-to-6-2-for-class-of-2030\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rose<\/a> to 6.2% for the Class of 2030.
