Access to another country remains important, but families are increasingly assessing what that access means for their children, careers, security and long-term choices. The planning question extends beyond where the principal wants to live today.

Ouhdouch linked those objectives through an Asian family example and Henley & Partners’ education services. Her emphasis was on creating useful options, with education influencing the choice of residence programme rather than being considered only after a destination has been selected.

Key Takeaways

Mobility Is Part of Family Strategy: Residence and citizenship planning can support security, education, lifestyle and succession objectives alongside geographical access.
Several Programmes Can Serve Different Purposes: Ouhdouch’s family example combined UAE, Portuguese and Swiss residence options within one broader plan.
Education Can Shape the Destination: A school or university choice may influence where the family needs residence rights and what it wants those rights to achieve.
Study and Career Planning Belong Together: Access to education needs to be considered alongside the opportunity to remain and work after graduation.
Profiling Comes Before Selection: Henley Academic Profiling Assessment and admissions counselling form part of the education proposition she described.
Permissions Have Different Effects: Residence permission, citizenship eligibility and tax residence each require their own assessment.

Moving from a Destination to a Family Plan

Ouhdouch described wealth migration as a strategic movement of high-net-worth individuals and families. In the conversations she encounters, clients are looking beyond a single relocation or an additional passport towards a wider plan for the family and its assets.

That changes the starting point for advisers. A programme may be attractive because of the access it provides, but the family’s reasons for seeking that access determine whether it is useful. Security, tax efficiency, education, lifestyle, mobility and legacy can all feature in the same discussion.

These priorities also interact. A location chosen for schooling can become the place where a child wants to begin a career. A residence option considered for family security can become relevant to a business opportunity or a later move. The value of the planning lies partly in understanding those connections before an immediate need arises.

Combining Options Around Different Objectives

Ouhdouch illustrated the approach through an Asian family whose arrangements brought together three programmes. The UAE Golden Visa, Portugal Golden Residence Permit Program and Swiss Residence Program were presented as serving different elements of the family’s wider objectives.

Portugal featured in the discussion of European access, education and the possibility of a later citizenship application. Switzerland was associated with banking and wealth preservation, while the UAE offered another potential base for the family. The example showed how several residence options could sit within one family strategy.

She distinguished the creation of options from a decision to relocate immediately. A family might make use of a location later, depending on its interests and circumstances. Each programme still has its own requirements: the possession of a permit does not by itself establish tax residence, and a potential citizenship route is a separate, conditional process.

Bringing Education into the Initial Conversation

Education was the area Ouhdouch singled out as increasingly influential in wealth planning. Families may first approach Henley & Partners about residence or citizenship by investment, then explain that their underlying priority is a particular school, university or future career for their children.

The education decision can therefore change the residence decision. A family seeking access to a boarding school faces a different set of questions from one planning for a child to complete university and remain in the country to work. Looking only at admission can leave an important part of the intended outcome unresolved.

Ouhdouch’s argument was to consider the sequence. The family needs to understand where a child may study, what comes afterwards and which residence or citizenship options could support those aspirations. The appropriate programme follows that assessment rather than determining it.

Assessing the Child Alongside the Programme

She outlined Henley Academic Profiling Assessment, or HAPA, as part of the firm’s education offering, alongside school and university admissions counselling. Additional support discussed included school visits and tutoring.

Those services connect the choice of institution with the individual child, while the wider residence discussion considers the family’s ability to make use of the opportunity. Her presentation placed that coordination within a broader evolution of wealth planning towards governance, succession and the next generation’s prospects.

For Ouhdouch, the useful conversation is becoming more forward-looking. Families want to understand how today’s investment in access can support tomorrow’s education and career choices. Advisers need to bring those objectives together early enough for the family to make a considered decision.

At the Hubbis Wealth Planning & Structuring Forum – Dubai 2026, Amal Ouhdouch, Associate Director Private Clients at…

[39
28,147,530
post-888944","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-personal-finance","tag-business","tag-personal-finance","tag-personalfinance
["GET
